Placid Audio’s Mark Pirro on the Copperphone
DALLAS - Copper on copper on copper | Mark Pirro, of Tripping Daisy and The Polyphonic Spree, lays out various iterations of his Copperphone microphone, which he invented for singer Tim DeLaughter of Polyphonic Spree in 2001. Since then and after many requests, Pirro started his own business, Placid Audio, devoted to self-manufacturing these copper character microphones that produce sound akin to an AM radio effect. The first major request: Jason Lytle of Grandaddy for the song "Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake" on 2003's "Sumday."
