Inside (and out) the annual NRA Meetup by Brian Maschino

Thousands descended upon Dallas for the National Rifle Association's Annual Meetings & Exhibits at Kay Bailey Hutchison the weekend of May 4, 2018. The highlight of the convention included speaking moments by Vice-President Mike Pence and President Donald J. Trump during the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) Leadership Forum, Saturday morning and afternoon.

Despite a sharp increase in anti-NRA and gun-reform rhetoric locally and nationwide, the NRA safely held their convention while protests periodically broke out across the street at Dallas City Hall - both large and minimally attended.

Mourners gathered in Anna, Tex., for a vigil in honor of Christina Morris, whose remains were found in a nearby field.

Morris, who disappeared in August of 2014, walked into a parking garage at The Shops at Legacy in Plano after a night out with friends and was never seen or heard from again. A fiercely dedicated group of volunteers and family members continued searching for weeks, what turned into years, to no avail.

Wednesday morning, March 7, 2018, police were notified of human remains in a field in Anna. Police confirmed they were in fact those of Morris the following day.

In the years since, Enrique Arochi - a friend of Morris - became a person of interest. As evidence mounted, Arochi was sentenced to life in prison in September of 2016 for the aggrevated kidnapping of Christina Morris.
